The Galaxy Rasbora, also known as the Celestial Pearl Danio, is a truly captivating freshwater fish that has taken the aquarium hobby by storm. These diminutive wonders, scientifically known as Danio margaritatus, are native to the fast-flowing streams of Myanmar (formerly Burma).

Their name perfectly encapsulates their mesmerizing appearance. Their bodies are adorned with a celestial tapestry of iridescent blue-green spots, shimmering like tiny stars against a dark background. This unique coloration, reminiscent of a starry night sky, makes them a truly unique and visually stunning addition to any aquarium.

Beyond their striking appearance, Galaxy Rasboras are known for their peaceful and active nature. They are happiest when kept in small schools, darting and swirling through the water column with a playful energy. Observing their lively interactions within the school can be incredibly entertaining.

However, their small size and delicate nature require careful consideration. They are sensitive to poor water quality and require pristine conditions to thrive. Maintaining stable water parameters, including temperature, pH, and water hardness, is crucial for their well-being.

By providing them with a well-maintained aquarium, appropriate tank mates, and a diet rich in high-quality foods, you can enjoy the mesmerizing beauty and captivating behavior of these celestial wonders.

Note: While commonly referred to as "Galaxy Rasboras," their official scientific name is now Danio margaritatus.

Key Characteristics:

  • Size: They are small, reaching a maximum size of about 1 inch (2.5 cm).
  • Coloration: Their most distinctive feature is the iridescent blue-green spots that cover their bodies, resembling a starry night sky. This unique coloration is what gives them their common name.

    • Tank Setup: A well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots is ideal for these fish. They enjoy swimming in the middle and upper levels of the water column.
